Beauty Box Comparison August 2013

Its time to review the beauty box subscriptions I purchase each month, which is Glossy Box and Birchbox. I have to vent my frustration with the delivery for both of these boxes. I live in the Midlands of the UK, so why are my friends who live up North receiving their boxes days before me? I just do not understand why? This happens every month and I always end up seeing whats in the boxes before mine arrives, I am seriously considering cancelling my subscriptions due to this. I am giving it another month and if this continues I am off to spend my monies else where. Alas on to the boxes...................

Glossybox

Emite Make Up Eyelash Curlers £20.00
Another set of eyelash curlers, I literally have several pairs waiting to be used. It made me laugh the other day another blogger commented on these saying oh they are worth £20.00 just like Shu Uemura eyelash curlers so they must be the same!! I really don't think so some how.

Urban Veda Radiance Day Cream 10ml £2.66
This is marketed as a natural brand with no SLS or parabens, I will give this a go. Its quite cheap though so I am not sure how good this will be?

Essential Make Up Remover Pen £?????  (simple pen £4.00)
I have one of these pens from Simple, it worked well until it completely dried up a few days later. I am happy to use a cotton bud to be very honest.

Jelly Pong Pong 2 in 1 eyeliner & shadow #Black £10.50
I am so tired of seeing this brand now, its so boring. I have received so many eyeliners in past boxes so this does nothing for me at all. Where are the Eye shadows? Blushers??

Tresemme Keratin Smooth 15ml £1.49
I will use this sample up, its quite small so I am wondering if this will cover my long hair? We will see very soon.

Birchbox

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer 40ml £7.33
I have used this before and love it, its certainly a Sunday pamper day product. I can get 2 uses out of this sized tube.

Gerda Spillmann Hydro Pearls Make Up Primer 10ml £3.00
I like to try primers, its not a silicone primer. I usually like those ones better so I will report back to you after I have tried this.

Laqa & Co Lil Lip Mini #Ring of Fire £4.66
I like the look of this product but the colour is completely wrong for me, I am disappointed as I have completed my personal settings on the Birchbox website and still I get the wrong colours. Its such a shame as I have seen this product in a beautiful peach and pink.

Skin Life Energetic Cellular Cream 10ml £3.50
My sample is 2/3 gone. I hardly have anything in my tube and there is no seal. Was your sample the same?

Molton Brown Body Wash #Ylang Ylang 30ml £1.80
This smells amazing, I will take this with me on my holiday. I like travel sized bottles to take away with me they come in extremely handy.

Beautify Me Vitamins Complex #28 Tablets (2 Weeks) £15.00
This months life style product, I don't care for this product. There is only 2 weeks worth here, so you would not see a difference from only a 2 week pack.

Birchbox gel filled eye mask £10.00
I have seen gel eye masks like this before in the pound shop, so I don't think this is worth £10.00. I will use this though, I will put it in the fridge first to cool. I can imagine its very soothing.

I think this is the most negative post I have ever written, so sorry guys, I am just extremely disappointed as I presume you have already figured?  I feel there is no point completing a personal profile with both these companies as they don't seem to adhere to them and I don't think the postage situation is fair.
Boxes cost £10 each plus P&P.
Boxes are worth this month, although I don't believe some of the cost claims!!

Glossybox £38.65
Birchbox £45.29

I can't call a winner this month as I am disappointed with both boxes, there is only 1 product that meets my needs from each box. I just feel meh....................

  1. I have never bought a subscription box, and I'm really glad now. When I got to the end and saw how much they cost, I was so shocked, I had to go back and look at the contents again. There is no way that the contents of either box is worth anywhere near the price. You could buy a full size premium product for the same price! Next time, forget the silly boxes, and treat yourself to a product you love and will really enjoy.

O, this is my favourite post from you ever now too. Not just honest and useful, but a little bit more feisty than before. I like this side to you Jen! x

  4. I'm glad you wrote that last paragraph as I was reading it thinking "wow, this doesn't sound like Jen!"

Surely the postage situation is down to local delivery offices rather than geography though?!
